Week 1: establish the baseline

Select ten products using revenue, margin, buyer complexity, and information gaps. For each product, save:

  • canonical product URL
  • current title and description
  • active variants
  • price and stock
  • decisive buyer attributes
  • five common presale questions

Canonical URL means the preferred public address for the product. You do not need to edit it this week; you need a stable page to inspect again later.

Run five buyer questions across the AI surfaces your customers use. Preserve the answer and source links. A missing mention is an observation, not proof of a penalty.

Week 2: repair visible product evidence

Work through the ten products. Separate marketing language from decision facts.

For Alder Row’s Transit Merino Overshirt, the buyer facts are:

Fabric: 68% merino wool, 27% recycled nylon, 5% elastane
Fit: regular; designed to layer over a T-shirt
Care: cold hand wash; dry flat
Weather: warm and odor-resistant; not waterproof
Pockets: two chest, two hand

Use Shopify metafields for reusable attributes, but display important facts on the page. Image-only text is not a reliable product source.

Week 3: align machine-readable sources

Ask a developer or technically capable team member to compare:

  • visible page content
  • Product JSON-LD
  • Shopify variant data
  • Google Merchant Center feed
  • Shopify Catalog eligibility and settings where available

The goal is consistency, not adding every possible Schema.org property. The selected variant’s identifier, price, currency, and availability are the priority.

If the developer finds duplicate Product objects, stale Offers, or a wrong canonical, use the existing technical guides rather than experimenting on the live theme.

Week 4: verify and establish ownership

Reopen the ten pages and rerun the five saved questions. Record:

  • whether corrected facts are public
  • whether source citations changed
  • whether factual errors remain
  • whether a new competitor appears
  • whether the test itself failed

Do not report a percentage improvement from ten prompts as a universal score. Report the actual observations.

Assign ownership:

Information Owner Review trigger
price and stock ecommerce operations every catalog sync
ingredients/specifications product team product revision
shipping and returns operations policy change
structured data developer theme release
prompt log marketing monthly

What success looks like after 30 days

Success is not “rank number one in ChatGPT.” It is:

  • ten important products answer real buyer constraints
  • page, variants, and feeds no longer contradict each other
  • five repeatable questions have dated baselines
  • future theme and catalog changes have named owners
  • remaining technical problems are specific tickets, not vague concerns

That foundation supports both AEO and GEO because it makes the store easier to answer from and easier to verify.
