The product and buyer question

Morrow Skin sells Barrier 03 Serum, a 30 ml facial serum.

The buyer asks:

Find a fragrance-free hydrating serum under CAD 50 for dry,
sensitive skin. Avoid retinoids. State the key ingredients,
how often it is used, and whether the brand publishes the full INCI list.

The answer depends on formula facts, not the words “clean,” “calming,” or “glow.”

Separate five types of beauty information

Type Barrier 03 content
identity 30 ml hydrating facial serum
formula full INCI list in required order
suitability positioned for dry and sensitive skin, with qualification
use 1-2 pumps after cleansing, once or twice daily
exclusion no added fragrance; no retinoids; patch-test guidance

If the formula has changed, publish a revision or clearly state that packaging should be checked for the current list. Do not maintain an old ingredient page that conflicts with the product sold.

Replace unsupported language

Before:

Clinically clean miracle hydration that repairs every skin barrier.

Problems:

  • “clinically” needs a defined study
  • “clean” has no useful product meaning without a standard
  • “miracle” is not evidence
  • “repairs every” is an absolute claim

After:

Fragrance-free hydrating serum with niacinamide, squalane, and
panthenol. Intended for dry and sensitive skin. Apply 1-2 pumps after
cleansing. Patch test before first use. This cosmetic is not presented
as a treatment for eczema or another medical condition.

Only publish ingredient concentrations when accurate, lawful, and approved by the product owner.

Use Shopify fields deliberately

Standard product fields carry title, vendor, variant size, price, stock, and images. Metafields can store:

  • product form
  • skin type
  • fragrance status
  • highlighted ingredients
  • routine step
  • usage frequency
  • full ingredient list
  • warnings

Display decisive facts as text. Do not put the INCI list only in a package photograph.

Keep machine-readable data modest

Product JSON-LD should accurately represent identity, brand, image, SKU, price, currency, and availability. Do not force every ingredient into unsupported Schema.org properties.

A product feed may support category-specific attributes differently. Map facts according to the channel specification rather than copying one unstructured paragraph everywhere.

Evidence for claims

Maintain an internal claim ledger:

Claim Evidence owner Public wording
fragrance-free formulation no added fragrance
suitable for sensitive skin regulatory/product approved qualified wording
24-hour hydration clinical publish study method if claimed
vegan supply chain definition and supplier evidence

AI systems may restate public claims without the merchant’s nuance. Precise wording and linked methodology reduce overstatement.

Acceptance questions

  1. Is the product fragrance-free or merely unscented?
  2. Does it contain a retinoid?
  3. What is the complete ingredient list?
  4. How much product is in the container?
  5. How often should it be used?
  6. What claims are cosmetic rather than medical?
